What do you think librarians do? What do you think would be really cool if librarians started doing it? What do you think the library of the future might look like?

I think that librarians arrange the library and can help you when you need a type of information or a book that could help you.I think librarians should be more fun, because we sometimes think of them as if they know everything and they don't have fun doing their work. I think they should  have a smile and a more  enthusiastic tone of voice. I imagine the library of the future with allot more of technology and less books because they would all be in the computer or in a tablet.

  1. Hi and thanks for sharing. Gosh, arranging the library is probably the smallest part of what librarians do. We do spend a lot of time helping people find information, regardless of its format. I think that once you get to know your librarian, you'll find that she/he can be a lot of fun. We have lots of "parties" but not usually in the public eye. And, I think most of us have fun doing our work. Solving that complex problem or shedding light on a research question is a lot of fun for us. (It's really about seeing that light bulb above your head switch to on when we're working with you on your information need). As far as the future of the library - is there still a need for a physical space that is the library? If you can download books to your Kindle or Nook, access databases anywhere via wi-fi, do you still need a place to go and get help or can you use email and IM/chat to consult with a librarian? Technology is a just a tool - you have to learn to use the tool as well as the information you get from the tool. I don't think libraries or librarians are going away but I'm not sure what they will morph into over the next few years and decades.
    Good luck in the program.
